HOUSH RAHIMZADEH
Founder and Principal Engineer
Housh Rahimzadeh specializes in design, construction-related value engineering, structural retrofit and design investigation, on both domestic and international structural engineering projects. His focus includes reinforced concrete and structural steel design for high- and low-rise structures .
Housh joined John Portman & Associates in 1972 as a project Engineer. His first assignment was the design, coordination, and construction administration of Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. This project included four 45-story office towers, a 72-story hotel tower and a 6-story retail structure. Since then, he has participated in various projects worldwide, sharpening his skills in design and value engineering. He enjoys a strong reputation in the building industry for his ability to design the most cost-effective structural systems. His value engineering efforts have saved clients millions of dollars. In addition to projects for Portman, Housh works closely with contractors and design professionals on design, value engineering, and the redesign of structural systems for improved effectiveness. He has also served as an expert witness. Housh’s extensive design and construction experience led him to develop the DIVERSAKORE framing system, a solution that applies a steel composite beam, the VERSA:T: beam, with other readily available building materials in a cost-effective and environmentally-conscious manner. This new system minimizes on-site labor and greatly reduces construction waste and staging needs while maximizing the accuracy of the as-built design intent. The VERSA:T: beam (in conjunction with precast hollowcore planks) was tested by United Laboratories in 2006 and approved as a 2-hour assembly eliminating the need for firespray. Testing in 2003 at Georgia Tech’s structural labs demonstrated that the VERSA:T: Beam had twice the ultimate strength of a similar concrete reinforced beam. |
